83-year-old with dementia beats out Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 on charts

Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and even Slim Shady have all been beaten on the Amazon charts by an 83-year-old lady in Scotland who lives in a care home and suffers from dementia.

Her name is Margaret Mackie – and while she struggles to remember names, she stunned residents at her care home when she sang a word-perfect rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ at the annual Christmas party.

Since then, a video of her performance with home worker Jamie Lee Morely went viral - so he decided to record the tune professionally and release it as a single.

The song, which raises money for Alzheimer's Society and Dementia UK, is now sitting at number seven in the Amazon bestseller chart.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran’s ‘South of the Border’ sits at no.31 on the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie (25 Jan 2020), while ‘Own It’ by Stormzy featuring Ed and Burna Boy was the week’s biggest dropper falling 18 places to no.29.

Tune in to the Kfm Top40 with Carl Wastie every Saturday, 10am - 3pm - and to hear the songs you just can’t get enough of, as they make their way up the chart to that number 1 spot.
